Tim Bergling, who is popularly known as Avicii, passed away on April 20, 2018. The Swedish electronic dance music artist made an impressive discography, having released many tracks which topped charts leading international tours throughout his career.
Avicii was also a disc jockey, songwriter and audio programming specialist. Born on September 8, 1989, Tim Bergling grew up loving music and trying to create his sounds which we have come to enjoy those he made under his name Avicii.
Avicii: Early Releases
He started sharing his music remixes on electronic music platforms while still a teen. Tim Bergling had his first record deal at sixteen. It is his 2011 single “Levels” that marked the beginning of his big break. Avicii released his first studio album, True, in 2013. The album was a fusion of electronic music with bits of other genres. “Wake Me Up” is among the most popular Avicii tracks. The track which was the lead single in the 2013 album received massive airplay across the globe, topping music charts in the US, Sweden, the UK, and other countries.
Avicii released his second studio album, Stories, in 2015. The album was well received by critics, having hot lead singles like “Waiting For Love”, “Pure Grinding”, “Broken Arrows” and “For A Better”. Avicii collaborated with artists like David Guetta, Rita Ora, Madonna, Adam Lambert and Lenny Kravitz in Stories. The electronic DJ was working on a third studio album before his untimely death. His team reported that the Swedish DJ had left a collection of songs which were almost done before his unfortunate passing.
Avicii Posthumous Album “TIM” Release
Press releases show that Avicii left notes, email conversations, and text messages talking about the music he was working on. Avicii posthumous album, TIM, is set to be released on June 6, 2019. Avicii was working with Universal Music. Executives from the label asked some of his close collaborators to be part of the project. Chris Martin of Cold Play is one of the big names who worked in the production of the album. Other artists include Albin Nedler, Kristoffer Fogelmark, Vincent Pontare Aloe Blacc and Salem Al Fakir.
Johnny Tennander, who was Tim’s publisher at Sony/ATV, was quoted saying that the project had a personal touch to it and felt lucid. Two singles from the album have already been released. “SOS” was released on 10th April 2019 while ‘Tough Love’ dropped on 9th May 2019. Tough Love has a video, which was shared on Youtube on 14th May.
EDM fans have been waiting for Avicii Posthumous Album ever since the family announced the release date of the project. Avicii’s father Klas Bergling was recently interviewed by The New York Times where he talked about the life of his son.
The interview was the very first time Klas Bergling has been seen publicly talking about his son’s passing. Avicii’s demise was met by shock and sadness by fans all over the world. Fans, music, and everyone in showbiz expressed their grief when the family announced Tim’s death.
How did Avicii die?
Tim’s cause of death was not clear the very first few hours after he died. Many were speculating especially since no official report about his demise had been released. Avicii died in Muscat, Oman at the age of 28. Avicii cause of death is said to be suicide. It was reported that the EDM artist died by suicide due to self-inflicted injuries with a wine bottle which was broken. He lost a lot of blood, leading to his sudden death.
The EDM star had been hospitalized in 2012 with acute pancreatitis. The cause of the disease was excessive alcohol consumption. His health failed him again in 2016, forcing him to abandon some tours to take care of self. The 2018 documentary titled Avicii: True Stories, revealed the personal and career challenges the Swedish star had faced.
Tim Bergling Foundation
Up until recently, Avicii’s family stayed away from the limelight, choosing to mourn and celebrate their loved one in private. The anticipated album release has however made some of his family members agree to media appearances, to talk about the album and the Tim Bergling Foundation.
All proceeds from Avicii posthumous album will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, a non-profit started by Avicii’s family in his honor. The foundation will focus on mental health awareness and prevention of suicide.
Tim was philanthropic and helped the needy when alive. Tim was known to contribute to causes that helped fight hunger and HIV/AIDS across the world. In a statement to the press, Avicii’s family said that their kin strived to make a difference wherever he was, and that is why they decided to start the foundation.
Mental health is not the only thing the foundation will focus on. The family reported that the foundation would soon diverse to climate change and the conservation of nature and protection of endangered species. The Tim Bergling Foundation will first have programs in Sweden and later on in various countries around the world.
