DJ Steve Angello joined forces with a musician that was equally talented but less well known as he did with most other DJs at the time. Steve Angello is best known as a DJ but also wrote music for a few well-known films. This led him to be hired by a leading producer to produce ID&T’s first album. The producer was Martin Gore, one of the founders of the British music label Apple Records.

Dubstep as an electronic music genre was developed in the late 1980s in the United Kingdom and has become increasingly popular in recent years. This is often attributed to the British invasion of Europe as early as this time, but some feel it has more to do with the breakbeat and bass music styles that became popular in the UK in the late 1980s.

The idea behind ID&T’s first album was to create something different and not necessarily a typical club/house song. Steve Angello was actually inspired by the legendary clubbers of the UK in his native country, and the clubbing culture of those countries influenced their music as much as the music styles themselves. He wanted to create an album that had an exciting dancefloor and would appeal to many genres. In the end, they succeeded with their second album, which featured the original ID&T beats mixed in with new and innovative material to keep the audience constantly turning the volume up.

They later added vocalists to the ID&T sound, creating a sound that had a strong Jamaican/Nu-Disco influence, but with some heavy bass components thrown in to give it an extra punch. The vocals were done by singer/songwriter Steve Lamacq, but with both of them combining together on their instruments, it creates a powerful combination of techno with soul.
