Here at One EDM, we want to show appreciation for the incredible singers and songwriters in electronic dance music, as well as acknowledge their success as solo acts. Not too long ago we reviewed the latest track from Clean Bandit ft Zara Larsson- “Symphony”; her expression for love and emotion was the cherry on top of the BANDIT cake, and left us wanting more.
At the young age of 19, Zara Larsson, has already signed two record deals, released two EPs, completed two albums and reached the top of the charts in multiple European countries. All of the Swedish Songstress’ talent also becomes abundantly clear on her track, “So Good”.
Stockholm has dished out a vibrant blonde bombshell with substance. Having success as early as the age of ten by winning the Swedish talent show “Talang”, signing a three-year record deal with Epic Records, this teen titan is adding her spice to the mix nicely. This young woman has managed to join forces with some of the music scene’s heavy hitters. Bestowing the EDM banger with David Guetta fittingly titled “This One’s For You” and co-writing with mega pop star Ed Sheeran on “Don’t Let Me be Yours”. Zara is putting in work and putting out gold. Making an edgy assertive statement with the electro-pop hit “Aint my fault” Zara Larsson is grabbing fans in multiple genres. Most recently Zara took hold of her mic at San Francisco’s famous venue “The Fillmore” alongside Starley and Clean Bandit. In addition, Larsson slays an acoustic version of her track “So Good” ft Ty Dolla $ign live on The Late Late Show with James Corden this past week.
Just released last month was Zara’s international album titled “So Good” which reached the top of the UK album charts. The album’s beginning starts with a “look at me; this is me” identifying track (“What They Say”). As the album plays on the listener feels a sense of various singers who might have inspired much of the content. Imagine if Robyn, Kehlani, and a bit of Rihanna with a sprinkle of a danced out Selena Gomez all fell into a pot, you’d then have Zara Larsson (but don’t forget Beyonce, Zara is a stan for the icon). Considering some of the stellar talent currently riding the radio waves, this album is holding its own nicely. When you achieve a steady rise in successful achievements and maintain a strong support system (Zara’s parents), your confidence builds; and at this age, it’s rightfully awarded.
Wearing with pride her views on sexism and feminism and our very own Donald Trump, this Swedish songbird shows us a pure example of the developing strength in female performers. Upon learning a sexual assault took place during one of her sets, Zara tweeted her views and thoughts on men without hesitation or regret. Maybe we need more talented singers who have the voice to not only sing but to also keep it real. Even if you disagree with her opinion, anyone standing up for their beliefs should be respected. On one hand the electro dance pop princess has her recording artist success and on the other hand her spirit to be a strong confident woman. The anticipation is real as we wait to see what Larsson has in store for us next. All of this success while still in high school? I think it’s safe to say she’ll be worth watching.
