Background of Undaground Element:
Undaground Element was started by DJ Threejay back in 1996 branching off from Disco Pimps and as a brother crew to Undaground Revolution. “UE” was proud to be a part of the biggest underground events in the Midwest during that time putting off events throughout the Midwest with the Midwest’s most respected and memorable promoters. In 1997 DJ Threejay started the now classic annual “Southside Chicago” series, celebrating the music of Chicago’s top DJs and producers. Towards the end of the 90’s rave scene, another one of our most successful series was “Yoshi’s World” which included “Return To Yoshi’s World” and “Yoshi and Friends”. Along with dozens more “one off’s” and weekly events, Undaground Element had secured its spot as an integral part of Chicago’s history.
In 2000 DJ Threejay met Mark One Torres while attending college in downtown Chicago. They instantly hit it off and began collaborating on house music and events. In 2001 Threejay decided to pursue other projects and handed over the reigns of Undaground Element to Mark One. However, the two continued to play tag team DJ sets across the midwest while still returning to class during the week. Realizing the responsibility that came with heading up a crew that had a rich and well respected history, Mark continued to host quality events in Chicago using the Undaground Element name. Most notably was the “Elemental Thursdays” series which featured a mixture of Veteran DJs along with up and coming local talent. For the next 4 years Mark threw a dozen parties in Chicago and Wisconsin including “Shine”, “Decks Men” and “Together Forever”. In 2006 Mark One Torres left the music scene also to pursue other business ventures.
In 2011 Threejay and Mark One have reunited and reinvented the Underground Element as more than just a promotional group and currently have added members from across the nation with the focused of underground House & Techno music!
For those who want to know the history of house music, here’s what Wikipedia has to say:
House music is a genre of electronic music created by club DJs and music producers in Chicago in the early 1980s.[5] Early house music was generally characterized by repetitive 4/4 beats, rhythms mainly provided by drum machines,[5] off-beat hi-hat cymbals, and synthesized basslines. While house displayed several characteristics similar to disco music, it was more electronic and minimalistic,[5] and the repetitive rhythm of house was more important than the song itself.
House music became popular in Chicago clubs in 1984. It was pioneered by figures such as Frankie Knuckles, [19] Phuture, Kym Mazelle,[20] and Mr. Fingers, and was associated with African-American and gay subcultures. House music quickly spread to other American cities such as Detroit, New York City, Baltimore, and Newark – all of which developed their own regional scenes. In the mid-to-late 1980s, house music became popular in Europe as well as major cities in South America, and Australia.[21]
A notable DJ duo out of Atlanta, Ralph & Louie will be performing for the first time at this amazing house music block party event. Be sure to check them out.
