OKEECHOBEE MUSIC FESTIVAL KICKS OFF TOMORROW
Okeechobee Music Festival
4 Days of Okee
The augmented reality app “Flarmingos” will help festival-goers to commence with the surreal. Populate Okeechobee with life-size pink flamingos, like those that once wintered in South Florida’s wetlands. Attendees can also visit the Flarmingos tent to sample a wetland fragrance, learn flamingo dance moves, meet the artist, and adopt a flamingo-onsite or through the in-app link. FLARMINGOS is a project of Kristin Lucas, produced through a Tech Residency at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, and made in partnership with Tour du Valat.
Be ready for intimate performances and interactive art throughout ChobeeWobee Village, meditation at Yogachobee, and lake activities at Aquachobee. Participation Row, a social action village powered by Headcount, will also host ten local nonprofits for attendees to interact with!

Life Under The Wheel
The festival also has partnered with Life Under The Wheel. The nonprofit organization focuses on sharing the joys of music festival experience among music lovers with life-threatening illnesses.
Life Under The Wheel’s festival grant program allows music lovers to apply (or be nominated) through the organization’s website. If an applicant/nominee is selected, LUTW provides tickets to the music festival of their choice as well as travel and accommodations to and from the event.
Life Under The Wheel
As a dedicated concierge for the festival grant recipient, Okeechobee is excited to announce Jason Egli as the chosen nominee. Jason is a high school teacher and basketball coach who was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer three years ago.
In 2017, Jason was forced to take a leave of absence from teaching to continue his treatment. He was nominated for a LUTW Festival Grant by his mother, Dorris. In her submission, she explained how Jason’s love of music began after suffering a sports injury in high school which left him without the use of his motor skills for an extended period.
While recovering from the injury, Jason learned how to play the guitar. Music performance became a passion that he continues to this day, but music is a love that Jason carries with him through all walks of life. Dorris explained that music is also what helps Jason get through the grueling treatments of cancer.
Jason currently works with Blue Hope Nation, a Facebook support group for people living with colorectal cancer. He also helps run a local support group at the high school where he teaches.
