Recap of Moonrise Festival: An Out of this World Experience

Moonrise Festival took place August 10-11 in Baltimore, Maryland. With perfect weather, and a stacked lineup, Moonrise Festival 2019 was one for the books.

This was the 6th annual Moonrise Festival event, and seemed to us like one of the best ones yet. In previous years, the weather was extremely unfortunate. This year, we had sunny skies and no rain. The festival was on top of the heat: spraying the crowds, giving out free water bottles, and also had large, shaded tents to chill under.

The four stages at Moonrise were constantly popping off. Some of our favorite sets of the festival were Illenium, Boogie T, San Holo, Space Jesus and Big Gigantic. Finally, our absolute favorite of the weekend was Excision closing out the fest. His lasers, pyrotechnics, and crazy visuals got us hyped up for his upcoming festival, Lost Lands.

Additionally, Hippie Sabotage was another one of our favorite sets. Their set was during the day, and extremely interactive. Kevin Saurer, one of the brothers of the duo, was in and out of the crowd, starting mosh pits and partying with the festival goers. Following this, he got the crowd jumping by throwing water, and hyping up his brother Jeff, who was behind the sound boards.

Indeed, the crowds at Moonrise this year were an absolute blast. We saw hardly any medical issues, and no altercations. Everyone was there for the same reason, to rage hard.

One thing Moonrise vets had to say, was that this year the Solar Tent got some killer upgrades. Significantly, there was better sound, more air flow, and more shady spots to take cover under. During Space Jesus, there was a beautiful sunset, shining right in on the crowd and Jasha. It was an undoubtedly beautiful moment before the energy of the late night sets hit.

Make sure you do yourself a favor, and BLAST OFF with us next summer at Moonrise Festival 2020. If its anything like this year’s, it’ll be the time of your life.
