Review: Paul Van Dyk Performed at Sunnyvale’s Pure Nightclub

Music Rescues Me Tour
On February 15, 2019, Paul van Dyk performed at Pure Nightclub, a dance music venue in Sunnyvale, California. Although Sunnyvale is a small Silicon Valley city, it still provided an amazing nightclub to host Paul van Dyk. The two-time DJ Mag “DJ of the Year” recently released his 9th album, Music Rescues Me, in December 2018. Furthermore, Music Rescues Me has reached #1 on iTunes Dance Charts in nine countries including the United States. In fact, the February 15th show in Sunnyvale is one of the 2019 USA Tour shows promoting the album.

First In Line
I arrived at Pure Nightclub at 9:40 PM and I quickly noticed that I was the first person. Immediately, two groups of people joined me in the line and it was not a lonely experience anymore. As 10:00PM approached, more attendees began arriving in huge numbers who were

A Pure Atmosphere
As soon as the show began, Pure Nightclub produced a mellow yet upbeat mood when the music started playing. There were lingerie-clad employees who held up ‘Pure Nightclub’ signs and liquor bottles with sparklers on top. Accordingly, more people entered the nightclub before midnight approached while attendees were still dancing and drinking as they waited. When midnight finally arrived, Paul van Dyk appeared on stage and encountered loud cheering as he began performing. To summarize, the moment he appeared on stage enhanced the nightclub’s atmosphere as the attendees really enjoyed the music.

The Legend Of Trance
Aside from the tracks on the Music Rescues Me album, he also played hit songs from previous albums. The hit songs played by him included “For an Angel” from 45 RPM and “Nothing But You” from Reflections. During the show, there were various strobe lights moving back and forth whenever he played a very intense song. There was a fan of Paul van Dyk who said he had not been to any show in 10 years. While blending in new musical styles, he still retained the unique sound that made him the world’s best DJ.

He’s Still Got It
Paul van Dyk’s amazing performance at Pure Nightclub came a long way from his accident in 2016. During A State of Mind in Utrecht, the Netherlands on February 28, 2016, he fell from an elevated stage. Due to the injuries sustained in Utrecht, he will never return to 100%. However, he is a performer who can still produce exceptional shows like he has done for over 25 years. To emphasize, his performance at Sunnyvale’s Pure Nightclub is proof that the trance genre is still strong and healthy.
