Preview: Sets at Sunset Music Festival, Saturday, April 28, 2018
Sets at Sunset is a one day house, techno, and trance festival taking place Saturday, April 28 in Gainesville, GA. They just announced their final lineup. In an effort to do something new and different for Atlanta, they have teamed up with Do Not Sit On The Furniture to bring a little piece of Miami to Lake Lanier. They welcome Behrouz and Hoj as their showcase headliners. Local support BEYUN, Kai Alcé, Raskal & The DJ Bri, Stan Zeff, Type 41, Velcrxo B2B Sir OJ, and VIVID will help round out the lineup. This year, Sets at Sunset will also have boat docks to rent, so you can pull your boat up and be right in the action.
Behrouz
Embarking on world tours and playing long sets eventually led to the creation of the Pure Behrouz concept that has taken Behrouz’s signature sound to a new level. The whole meaning or direction of the Pure Behrouz night starts with Behrouz playing from open to close, taking his audience on that famous journey of different genres of music, which only a select few can dare to embark upon. In this day and age where most DJs can play no more than a standard two-hour set, with Pure Behrouz, you get a pure journey of music, not on a laptop, but through love and vinyls that are handpicked by Behrouz himself around the world and upfront music that most likely you may never get the chance to hear from another DJ.
Step into the world of Behrouz at Sets at Sunset!
Hoj
Hoj sets out to create mischief in all his creative endeavors. His music is deep and sexy in a way that encourages crowds to create a little mischief.
This sound earned him a night at Berlin’s legendary Panorama Bar amongst a slew of other clubs and stages around the world. The DJ was one of the founding members of the Opulent Temple at Burning Man, and in recent years his sets atop the Robot Heart bus have become legendary in their own right. He continues his musical escapades alongside Lee Burridge as a resident for All Day I Dream.
Hoj currently lives in Los Angeles. His name is pronounced with a long “O”.
Beyun
Beyun is the creator of Vault Boston and an artist on DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid and Jack Trax labels. Her style is deep, dark, jackin’, soulful techno, and house.
She was born in the Philippines to a Ukrainian-American father and German mother, given a Korean name (Biyeun). She was raised in eastern Russia in the early 90s and Seattle after ’95, Beyun moved to Boston in 2006 to study Physics at MIT. Due to being abroad for a large portion of her childhood, Beyun’s musical upbringing initialized from movie soundtracks and her father’s taste for psychedelic rock bands.
Beyun founded VAULT and was responsible for nearly every aspect of its production—from flyer design & photography, algorithmically-generated audiovisuals, to audio-responsive DIY LED installations.
Trained in physics, engineering, and computer science, Beyun searches for the intersection between music, art, and technology.
Kai Alcé
He has a combination of Haitian roots, spent his youth in St. Croix and New York City. It is evident when he steps behind the turntables or CDJs, Kai Alcé at once is apparently comfortable and just a tad bit nervous. That’s probably what makes Kai Alcé (pronounced al-SAY) such a force: He doesn’t settle down, blend in, or go along. That integrity comes through in every gig he performs. From his early days at Detroit’s Music Institute when he was just teenager, to the 10-year-long DEEP legacy at MJQ that he co-founded, to the production company, NDATL, that he created in 2008.
Raskal & The DJ Bri
This is a husband and wife who perform as a duo on special occasions. Raskal is an Atlanta based DJ/Producer of house & techno. Raskal is the label head for Southern Exposure Music. Also, he has produced tracks on Baroque Records, Southern Exposure Music, MK837, and Afro Acid.
The DJ Bri is a name you want to recognize. She has made headway as one of the fastest growing stars and has earned respect from the techno and house music community in record time. Many heavy hitters in the area are calling her “Atlanta’s first lady of house and techno”. Her roots may be in Atlanta, but she is steadily gaining a worldwide reach.
Her recent release “I Can’t Think” on Southern Exposure Music reached #49 on the Beatport Top 100 Releases and was in the #10 slot on the Techno Top 100 charts.
The DJ Bri is also part staff of Southern Exposure Music. Bri serves Southern Exposure Music as the A/R Manager, scouting out upcoming talent to release. She has already brought in amazing artists such as Thayana Valle from Brazil and Monoteck from The Netherlands to name a few.
As part of Southern Exposure, The DJ Bri has headlined four very successful Merge Parties in Atlanta. She has shared the stage with amazing artists such as Carlo Lio and destroys the crowd with her signature techno sound.
Stan Zeff
Stan Zeff was born and raised in London, England. He has been spinning house music for over 20 years and started in the depths of the London underground warehouse parties from the mid-’80s. In his move to the States in 2000, he began the world-renowned Tambor Party.
“The Tambor Party is a Party for everyone to enjoy the un-compromised sound of house music”. Zeff emerged from the school of London Sound Systems. He was one of the London pioneers of house music in the mid to late ’80s and the infamous 1988 ‘Summer of Love’ when house in the UK went to another level.
Zeff now resides in Atlanta Georgia, indeed a global shift, but the good music remains the same. He aligns his music style to the London, New York, and Chicago house scene. Zeff merges the soulful, afro, and deep house genres. He’ll set the mood and let you loose to express yourself on the dance floor.
Type 41
In 2017, Type 41 partnered up and claimed home to Sied Van Riels’ label, Rielism and with his debut release “Ascension” received massive support from the industries most respected DJs. Last year, Type 41 continued to build an impressive career that includes everything from playing support for the trance mega stars Alex M.O.R.P.H. and Talla 2XLC. He also keeps trance addicts up-to-date with the latest and greatest trance tunes with every episode of his very own radio show and brainchild, Digital Euphoria.
There is no denying that Type 41 has forged himself a stable place in the electronic dance industry. As the years progress, he promises to continue to bring fans the very best in both unique productions and exhilarating performances.
Velcrxo B2B Sir OJ
Velcrxo aka JJ Solano who is also an Atlanta bass/dubstep producer called DJ Vitillaz is now playing under this new persona with house music. He’s introducing his new identity with a B2B with Sir OJ. Sir OJ plays at a quad-weekly and also will be at this year’s Imagine Music Festival.
