Shpongle ‘Live’ returns to Red Rocks for Sold Out two-night grand finale

Shpongle ‘Live’ Final Performance
Red Rocks Amphitheatre
May 3-4, 2019
In celebration of one last grand finale, pioneers of the psybient genre also known as Shpongle announced the bittersweet return of the ‘Live Band’ to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for two special nights on May 3 & 4, 2019. This will be the last time that world music artists Shpongle, composed of Simon Posford and Raja Ram, perform a full public concert as a live band in its entirety. Anticipation and excitement were evident yesterday as all tickets for the event sold out in record time. Tickets for Saturday were gone in under four minutes, while Friday night sold out in four hours. Don’t fret, if you were one of the unfortunate ones who missed out, there are still seven months to secure tickets before fans make one last trip to Shpongleland for the final farewell.
Artist Lineup Revealed…More to be announced.
Soon after the event went on sale, Simon Posford, co-founder of Shpongle, took to Facebook Live to show his enthusiasm. In the video (below), Posford decides to share some extra-special information regarding the lineup. Originally, he says, he wasn’t going to release this information until December, but given the outpour of support, he decided to let fans know a few of the artists who will also perform during the final send-off for Shpongle ‘Live’. Watch the video below to find out. We don’t want to spoil any of the fun for you.
Drum roll, please… and the artists are Tipper and Desert Dwellers!
It was also revealed via Facebook and Instagram that Nova Han will be the Creative Director of the event. Known for her stage design, pyrotechnics, costume designs, and more, Han has taken lead role in production at events including Electric Forest, Burning Man, Electric Daisy Carnival, and with artists including Deadmau5, Bassnectar, The String Cheese Incident, and more!

While there hasn’t been any confirmation, if history has its course, it is very likely that visionary artists Alex and Allyson Grey will also be in attendance to add to the visual element of this final farewell.
The End of an Era
If there is any indication as to why Shpongle is finally waving the white flag on the ‘live band’ experience, fans should consider the other co-founder of Shpongle, Raja Ram, who has honorably earned a proper retirement party. At 76 years old, Raja Ram continues to travel continents while harnessing the utmost energy that we can only hope to behold at that age. Simply put, there’s no better way for Raja Ram to end this chapter of the nearly 25-year history of Shpongle other than with one last ‘live band’ celebration. It is true, while Raja has reached the wise age of elder maturity, like fine wine, there is no doubt that he will lack any nuances of magic when Shpongle returns to the stage at Red Rocks for one final blast off.
In 2014, Shpongle ‘live’ traveled to Red Rocks for their first time to perform as a 12-piece band. This sold-out event was supported by DJ sets the night before at Boulder Theater. The Twisted Records team including Posford’s Hallucinogen act and a Raja Ram solo set helped to kick off the party. Following the event, Shpongle released a DVD of the performance so that they can continue to enchant audiences whenever possible.

The return to Red Rocks in 2019 will be monumental. Fans in attendance will join together as one weird community traveling dimensions down the rabbit hole and betwixt the ineffable mysteries of Shpongleland.
Furthermore, Shpongle has revamped its website, including the complete 2014 performance from Red Rocks as the background of the homepage. Relive the entire 2014 performance by clicking here.
