Going on its eighth year of operation is Spring Awakening 2019. The Spring Awakening Music Festival has been a staple festival in the city of Chicago. Over the years, Spring Awakening (SAMF) has brought in some of the biggest names in electronic music to the Windy City. It is one of the notable North American EDM festivals that has a major city as its hosting location.
History of SAMF
React Presents produces Spring Awakening Music Festival. React Presents is an event promotion company that produces, promotes and brands music event in and around Chicago. The company is responsible for producing one of the biggest electronic music events in the Midwest.
In past years, The festival was held two other venues including Soldier Field, Addams Field, and Medill Park – all located inside the city limits. In fact, Spring Awakening 2019 will be hosted at the Poplar Creek venue in Hoffman Estates.
Some of the festival’s previous line-ups have featured some of the biggest names in electronic music. Diplo, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, RL Grime, and Tiesto just name a few. Other notable artists also included Martin Garrix, Dillon Francis, Alan Waler, Space Jesus. Furthermore, If you can think of an EDM artist the odds are they have played at this festival.
Leading up to this year’s announcement of the festival’s line up there was some controversy about this year’s venue. The SAMF festival has always been within city limits. This year it will take place in Chicago’s northwest suburb of Hoffman Estates. The poplar creek venue is relatively unheard of to most Chicagoans as it is about a 40-minute drive without traffic. Therefore, something had to be addressed in order to confront this on-going speculation. React had released a 3D sneak peek video of the venue and new stages.
As usual, the team over at React did not hold back when booking artists for this year’s lineup. The star-studded lineup includes an array of different artists ranging in sound from bass to big room to tech-house. Some notable names include DJ Snake, Benny Benassi, Malaa, Chris Lake and What So Not.
As done in the past, SAMF incorporates curated stages by day that cater to certain genres. Also, these curated stages include Anjunabeats, Bass Kitchen, and AMF. Furthermore, these curated stages have historically introduced artists from the underground scene to the festival. Festival-goers may or may not have heard of these artists, in which they provide an eye-opening experience.
Furthermore, the lineup includes a significant amount of house artists on the lineup. With the festival held around the birthplace of the grooving genre, it is fitting that they do so. Also, these artists include Chris Lake, Nora En Pure, Shiba San, Latmun, Gene Ferris and many more. So, if you like house this is the place to be when June 7th rolls around.
