Sunset Music Festival Announces Phase 2 Lineup and Set Times
Sunset Switch-Up
Tampa’s massive Sunset Music Festival, which will take place May 25-26, announced their Phase 2 lineup. The announcement consisted of the weekend’s second set of headliners plus set times for the festival. During the Phase 1 lineup, Sunset Music Festival announced prominent artists including Borgore, NGHTMRE, 3LAU, San Holo, and Boombox Cartel in addition to the headliners Marshmello and Excision.
As can be seen below, the festival states they added two big-name headliners to the lineup based on fan requests and feedback.
New Headliners
Specifically, REZZ will join Marshmello as Saturday night’s secondary headliner, while Illenium will play on Sunday before Excision. The news of their addition follows the controversial recall of the initial lineup poster showing The Chainsmokers headlining on Sunday night.
Sunset Music Festival later released the official statement on their Facebook page apologizing for the mix-up. However, they cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for The Chainsmokers removal. To read more about the lineup drama click here.
REZZ
The 23-year-old Canadian DJ, affectionately called “Space Mom” by fans, is known for her trademark look of a hat and spiral goggles as well as incorporating psychedelic art into her production and branding. Her dark, industrial techno-sound, which borrows from early Belgian-genres like electronic body-music and new-beat, garnered praise from influential producers and fans alike.
Rezz also signed to Deadmau5’s label, mau5trap, in 2015 with many referring to her as his protégé. Since then, she has released three EPs in addition to her 2017 debut album Mass Manipulation. In fact, it was named “Best Electronic Album of the Year” at the 2018 Juno Awards. She has headlined several sold-out shows, and recently opened for Bassnectar. However, Rezz will make her festival headline debut at Sunset Music Festival.
Illenium
Denver-based producer Nick Miller, aka Illenium, gained recognition for his emotional melodic bass-music wrought with emotional appeal. In 2016, he started his own record label Kasaya Recordings in tandem with the YouTube channel Mr. Suicide Sheep’s label Seeking Blue. He later released his debut album Ashes.
The album was very successful. In fact, it peaked at #6 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart. He is currently making his rounds on the festival circuit after coming off a headlining tour for his 2017 album Awake. This album included hits such as “Fractures” featuring Nervve.
Sunset Music Festival
Sunset Music Festival will be returning for its 7th consecutive Memorial Day weekend in Tampa, Florida at the Raymond James Stadium. It is hosted by electronic-music event giant Disco Donnie Presents and Sunset Events. In order to make this year’s festival bigger and better than ever before, there are plans to make improvements.
To clarify, Disco Donnie made the following statement:
This year’s SMF lineup includes a lot of firsts to make the lineup our biggest yet — four top tier headliners, new genres like hip hop, a focus on female artists, back to back sets, stage takeovers by All My Friends and Brownies & Lemonade, plus some new surprises in store in coming weeks.
John Santoro of Sunset Events also added:
I feel that we really dialed in the operations last year and can’t wait to show all the added toys we put into the festival this year for our family to enjoy. I hope everybody’s ready for an unbelievable festival.
