Hey Novado! What was the song/artist/moment that made you get into music?
I always enjoyed all styles of music when I was a kid, but what turned it into a more serious interest was hearing House music for the first time. For me, it was the track Lady by Modjo. I was still a kid back then but I had a really strong and instinctive reaction to it. It sounded different from anything else I’d ever heard before and it was the first time I noticed the more meaningful side to music.
We know you’re an aficionado behind the decks, but do you have a show which made you realize you loved House music?
My passion for House music was pretty solid before I started going to shows. It took me a while before I started going to shows at all since it wasn’t a big thing in Sweden and you pretty much had to travel abroad for it. The first real events I went to were Unighted in Nice and Sensation White in Amsterdam, which both definitely made an impact on me.
When it comes to specific shows, there have definitely been a few that have really inspired and impressed me. One that stands out is Nic Fanciulli at Space Ibiza. The atmosphere really built up over the course of the set, the track selection, the way the set was built up. Everything was really special.
When did you discover your passion for DJing and producing?
It was when I was about 19, I just had a huge interest in Dance music and really wanted to share it with people. I was also on a trip to Miami that year which really inspired me. There were a bunch of Swedish DJs playing during the week I was there. I found it really inspiring that “regular” guys from Sweden were traveling the world playing their music.
What was the first release that blew your socks off?
The first tracks that I really loved were from the French House scene, apart from Modjo – Lady which I already mentioned, it was tracks like Junior Jack – My Feeling and Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You.
What inspired your first release/ first show?
My first release was when I was in a duo back when I used to live in Paris. That was the first time I got into Deep House music and it was something in-between a Deep House and Progressive House track kind of similar to the Anjunadeep style. We were really inspired by the Deep House scene then since it was new to us.
Has there been a show/track which has changed your life and the course of your musical career?
Honestly, it hasn’t really been about a single defining moment or show, it’s more of a process that’s been happening over time. A game changer for me though was spending a full summer DJing in Ibiza. Being around that scene made me change my style towards a much more House focused sound..
Finally, what do you think makes your work unique?
I try to always have a focus on the feeling and emotion in the music rather than just putting out “functional” tracks.
Thanks! Give us one song that we should all check out?
