Chemical Surf: Brazil’s Next Successful House Music Duo

Chemical Surf released their newest single "Pow Pow Pow" with legendary house artist Kaskade

Chemical Surf, consisting of brothers Luca and Hugo Sanches, are a Brazilian house duo from the city of Balneário Camboriú. The beach resort city, located in the southern state of Santa Catarina, is considered to be the “capital of Brazilian electronic music”. The city’s unique reputation proved to be a great stepping stone for Chemical Surf to build their careers in. Chemical Surf has accumulated over 250 million streams on digital platform, including for notable tracks such as “Hey Hey Hey” and “I Wanna Do“. The brothers have collaborated with EDM superstars such Steve Aoki, Hardwell and R3HAB.

Their newest track, “Pow Pow Pow“, came out on July 17 via Kaskade‘s own record label Arkade. “Pow Pow Pow” is also Chemical Surf’s collaborative single with the legendary Grammy-nominated producer himself. The energetic track has a great amount of groovy drops and explosive bass that will receptively reverberate eardrums. Here is One EDM’s exclusive interview with Chemical Surf, the duo who had planned to perform in the U.S. for the first time if COVID-19 did not occur. To conclude, “Pow Pow Pow” is out now on all streaming platforms.

Kenny Ngo: How is Brazil doing right now in the pandemic?

Chemical Surf: The situation in Brazil is very complicated right now. We are the second country with most cases in the world and having a political crisis on top of that. We are doing our part and hoping that everything goes back to normal as soon as possible.

How have your family and friends been doing during this hectic time?

Everyone is doing fine. Luckily, our beloved ones are taking care of themselves during these crazy times and it’s actually been great to spend some time with our families. We feel that we are more united than ever.

What was the last show or festival you performed at before the pandemic?

It was a venue called “Place Lounge” at Cocal do Sul. Very nice show before the pause.

If it wasn’t for COVID-19, what were your initial plans this year?

We were going to tour for the first time in the USA, including Ultra Music Festival and many other great events around the country. We also had our annual Europe tour planned, but, as you know, everything got cancelled. However, we understand the situation and we’re sure that we will be back as soon as it’s safe.

You just recently released your latest single “Pow Pow Pow” with Kaskade. How does it feel working with the legendary producer?

It was a huge honor to work with Kaskade on “Pow Pow Pow”. We are big fans of him and he also loves our music, so it was amazing to finally work on a track together. We are all very happy with the result and our fans are going crazy about it.

How was the production process of “Pow Pow Pow” like?

Hugo recorded the vocals in our studio in Balneário Camboriú and we built a strong and punchy drop around it. We sent the initial idea to Kaskade and he added some final details. You can listen to the result on all digital platforms.

What was your favorite show or festival that you performed at in the past?

It’s very hard to choose one, but we can say that one of our favourites was Rock In Rio. We are huge fans of the festival and performing there felt really special. Also, our parents had the dream to go to the festival and we brought them for the first time there to watch us perform. It was really magical.

Which countries do you like visiting on your international shows?

We love playing in Europe (Spain, Ireland, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, etc) and we’re looking forward to our debut in the US.

Which attractions in Balneário Camboriú do you recommend the fans to check out when they are in the city?

Definitely go check Praia Brava. Is one of our favourite locations with a beautiful beach and many good restaurants and bars around it.
