Coming from Rio de Janeiro, Cat Dealers are currently Brazil‘s biggest EDM duo. Formed by Luiz Guilherme and Pedro Henrique, Cat Dealers have over 3.8 million monthly Spotify listeners. Their growth continues to be strong since their remix of Tom Novy’s 2016 single, “Your Body” went viral and it amassed 90 million views. Cat Dealers performed a set at one of San Francisco’s prominent nightclubs, Temple SF, on October 5th, 2019. Here is the exclusive interview with Cat Dealers:
Kenny Ngo: Was this your first time performing in San Francisco?
Cat Dealers: Yes it was and we were super excited about it! I (Pedro) lived here for a year back in 2011, so it’s really good to be back DJing!
How does it feel being Brazil’s leading name in EDM?
It is amazing! We have an awesome scene in Brazil and we feel really honored to be able to spread our music to the world alongside other brazilian DJs that we are good friends with!
What is the EDM scene like in Brazil compared to the scene here in the United States?
In Brazil people like more house 4/4 kick style. In the USA, people like a wider variety of genres such as trap and dubstep. It is harder to get recognised through trap and dubstep in Brazil.
Your remix of Tom Novy’s “Your Body” now has 90 million views on YouTube, how does this feel?
It is amazing because this track was one of our first tracks back in 2016, and it’s still one of the strongest of our sets. People always go crazy and it is amazing to see how big it has become!
You recently teamed up with GoldFish to produce “Colours and Lights”. What was it like producing the song?
Working with GoldFish is something we loved doing, because these guys are the best! They always have a good vibe, super professional and just amazing musicians. We learnt a lot working with them!
What are your plans for 2020?
Our goal is to reach more people around the world, playing in more countries. We are super happy with the way our international career is going and we are really excited to grow even more.
What music do you like listening to aside from electronic music?
We really love rock and roll. We listen to a lot of Foo Fighters, Queen, Coldplay.
Last question and it’s regarding futebol (or soccer as it’s called here in the United States). When it comes to the four major Rio clubs in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, do you guys support Flamengo, Botafogo, Fluminense, or Vasco de Gama the most?
Hahahaha, we are Botafogo supporters! We don’t have much free time anymore, but we always go to games when we can. We still watch every game though!
