About Martin Jensen
The kind of artist who simply does that which an artist does is Martin Jensen. He is an artist whose skill in music production is of renowned artistic value. As much as such words are compelling, the music demonstrates his standout talent. For example, his latest single “16 Steps” is consistent with artistry and vision for music that captures the human soul and global audience as well. This one is sung from the soul that longs to be in love–this universal need is perhaps one of the ways his artistic expression is so successful.
Interview with Martin Jensen
One EDM: WHO AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO FOLLOW YOUR PATH IN MUSIC?
Martin Jensen: In the beginning, Martin Garrix was a big inspiration to me. Lately, however, I’ve really liked what The Chainsmokers do. I was lucky enough to warm up for them when they played Royal Arena in Copenhagen. Alex and Drew are really amazing guys and very down-to-earth. Meeting them and watching what they’re doing has really given me a new energy to chase my dream and do my own solo shows around the world.
WHEN YOU ARE NOT CREATING OR LISTENING TO ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC, WHAT KIND OF MUSIC WOULD SOMEONE FIND YOU LISTENING TO ON A RANDOM MORNING OR EVENING?
I’m still listening to electronic music all the time! Contemporary pop is very electronic influenced. So, I would say mostly pop and once in a while, you can find me listening to soft rock or old school hip-hop music. Modern hip-hop doesn’t really do anything for me, at the moment.
ARE THERE ANY FESTIVALS OR GATHERINGS YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ATTENDING AND PLAYING AT THIS YEAR?
I have played a lot of festivals this summer like Unite with Tomorrowland, WKND Festival, Arenal Sound, New Horizons and many more but one I’m really looking forward to is World Club Dome in South Korea. That one will be amazing! Afterward, I’m playing Corona Sunset Festival in China. I’m really excited and motivated to keep playing and doing shows all around the world.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF MAKING MUSIC?
My favorite part is definitely coming up with something you haven’t heard before. When I was younger, I always thought coming up with new music was impossible because of all the music already released, but as I’ve progressed it’s amazing to still find new and unique ways to do things and really come up with something original.
DO YOU HAVE ANY DREAM DESTINATIONS TO PERFORM AT?
I think I performed in almost every corner of the world at this point, but what comes to mind is definitely Coachella. However, I’m super happy with what we’ve accomplished so far.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE FESTIVAL TO PERFORM AT SO FAR?
My favorite festival to perform at was actually not one but two festivals during the same weekend. One was called Southside and the other one, Hurricane in Germany. These two shows totally surprised me. It’s, in essence, a rock festival which made me very concerned if the crowd would connect to my music. However, the tents were packed, and they had to close off the area at some point because there were too many people. The energy was insane.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST SATISFYING ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR?
That has to be that I’m able to keep doing what I’m doing. It’s so amazing being able to live off my passion, which is music.
APART FROM EDM, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?
Production-wise I really like to experiment with åpå and diversify my sound in that way. In life, I love to take photos all around the world. Every time we’re traveling I’m posting onto this Instagram page called World Tour Frames, which I’ve created.
IN LIFE AND MUSIC, WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR BIGGEST STRUGGLES?
Definitely sleep, travel, sleep and travel! Those are the biggest struggles.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO TALK ABOUT?
I really liked these questions, but I’d like to say to all the guys out there who aspire to be a DJ: Fight for it and never give up. Forget about the negative things and fight through.
