Introducing Swiss Techno DJ Toma Hawk
Toma Hawk talks about career, musical upbringing, and hobbies

Having built his life around Techno, Swiss DJ Toma Hawk shows off his musical upbringing through the intricacies of his music and has released several stunning tracks including ‘Build Love’ and ‘Inside Out’. After having a few years out, Toma returned back to the studio in 2017 with his main focus on the music and devoting himself to the fun that comes with creating and has been releasing music better than ever before. We sat down with Toma Hawk to find out more about him and his career.
For those who don’t know you, tell us a bit about yourself?
My real name is Tomi and I am based in Switzerland. I’ve been part of the electronic music scene for more than 25 years and I’ve never lost my heart for it!
I’m very happy that I have gone through many different stages and developments at that time. Toma Hawk itself is still a young and fresh project. For me, it is a real playground in which I can develop myself creatively. A great thing to be allowed to make music without pressure.
How would you describe your music?
All these years, I’ve had pretty much every influence. Be it electronic or pop/rock, up to classical music. I want to have as much freedom as possible and so my productions all differ a little bit. Sometimes a little harder and darker, sometimes more melodic and groovier. It’s a matter of feeling.
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
I come from a classical family, had my hip-hop & rock phase, but then got stuck in electronic music. Also, there I had everything. House, Hardcore, Trance, Techno and so on. From all genres, I have always found inspiration in every form of music. It’s hard to name names because everybody is good at what they do.
What has been your biggest career achievement so far?
This is also a difficult question, as there have been so many great and unforgettable moments and hopefully, there still will be. What was certainly unforgettable was the collaboration with Robin Beck for the remake of the Coca Cola world hit “First Time, First Love”. Musically it has nothing to do with the current one, but I had such a great time.
Also, the whole time we were at the events and festivals as the organizers were great. It’s great to be on stage and to see how the people are happy and dance!
When did you realise that you were in love with electronic music?
I did not believe in love at first sight haha! I was there from the very beginning and was allowed to experience and shape the whole story. Love grows and for me personally we grew together. Its sounds kind of cheesy, but music has always helped me to get on my feet in life, even if not everything was so sugary. The music is always honest with you. Kind of like animals or kids.
Do you have any other hobbies besides making music?
Oh yes definitely! I love animals and nature; both are such a wonderful inspiration to me. As an original cook and gastronomer, I love cooking! Additionally, a pinch of fitness to balance it out.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
A hard question because it always comes but its always different than you imagine.
In any case back on stage and in clubs. Release many songs and bring joy to the people with my music. Now, tomorrow, in 5 and also in 10 years!
If you could produce any other genre of music what would it be and why?
I do that somehow. Without a concept, but that’s not always necessary. Sometimes something comes out that doesn’t go with ‘Toma Hawk’, but I like it too. D’n’b is cool. Combined with guitars and cool vocals. Or film music for a really fat science fiction thriller, yeah.
Finally, which one of your tracks would you recommend that sums you up best?
Currently maybe “Destination Zero”, but that’s still coming out. Tomorrow it might be something else!
