Introducing: Karim Naas
From young gun to established talent, Karim Naas has matured as a DJ and producer. Making music as Busta K in his teenage beginnings to his more recent productions as Karim Naas, his maturity in handling his music career is serving him well. See how this artist has grown in the interview below.
KARIM NAAS WELCOME BACK TO One EDM, WE SAW YOU A WHILE BACK AS BUSTA K AND NOW UNDER YOUR NEW ALIAS, KARIM NAAS, CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THE CHANGE?
Hi! Thank you. I’m glad to be back! Yes, Busta K is the alias I have been using from the start and that was best representing me as an artist. The reason why I decided to adopt my real name as an artist name – Karim Naas – is that I wanted to be true to my audience. Not in the sense that I was not sincere before, but I feel like my music has evolved in the last few years, I have also grown up as an individual and I now wanted to start the year afresh and further develop my career with a new identity.
HOW HAS IT BEEN AS A DJ AND PRODUCER SO FAR IN YOUR CAREER, PERSONALLY?
Great. I had the chance to meet and work with amazing artists last year, both in the US and the UK, and to produce lots of new tracks that will be released this year. I had the chance to travel to and stay in London for 4 months, and also to go to Los Angeles and Miami. These experiences were very enriching and inspired me to create new music.
“Threw A Party” IS ONE OF YOUR LATEST RELEASES, WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN THIS PRODUCTION?
I am really happy with the way the song came out. To be honest we could not have gone further with the song. I had the chance to be put in contact with Kurtiz the Kid when in the US, and I sent him some beats. Kurtiz sent them back to me with amazing vocals on the track and I did not have to change anything, it sounded amazing!
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST SATISFYING ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR?
To be where I am today. When I started this journey, I knew I wanted to become a professional EDM artist, but I was not exactly sure how to achieve that. Now that I have some experience and thanks to all the feedbacks I have received, either from the audience or professionals, I have become a stronger professional artist and I have a clearer vision of the steps I have to take to further develop my career.
WITH THE NEW YEAR 2020, IT IS A NEW DECADE IN MUSIC. WHERE DO YOU THINK THE EDM SCENE IS GOING?
I think EDM hasn’t shown its full potential yet, and I am sure it will expand in the coming years. There are lots of young and talented artists that have already conquered their audience – look at Marshmello for instance – and I am sure others will come. It is a genre that lots of people love and will continue to love as most of the songs are so full of energy and positivity, and they make people want to dance!
WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR YOU TO PRODUCE A TRACK? IS IT DICTATED BY GENRE, FEELING, OR SOMETHING ELSE?
Feeling. That’s what got me to produce this new track. I hear vocals, or a melody, and I immediately know I can do something with it.
WHAT ADVICE, IF ANY, WOULD YOU GIVE ANY ASPIRING DJ AND PRODUCER?
Believe in yourself! Confidence is what can make one go beyond their limits and reach their goals.
ARE THERE ANY FESTIVALS OR GATHERINGS YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ATTENDING AND PLAYING AT THIS YEAR?
At the moment I am focused on my releases and producing new tracks. Playing at festivals is definitely on my list for this year – hopefully I will have great news to share with you soon!
APART FROM EDM, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?
I love fashion and arts. Also, going out with my friends, visiting new places, and of course attending concerts and festivals.
