At the tender age of 21 Mike Williams is doing it all, producing great music, touring the world and sharing his journey via his blossoming vlog series ‘On Tour with Mike Williams’. The young producer is dazzling the electronic music industry with his signature ‘future bounce’ sound. He is lucky to count Tiësto and his imprint Musical Freedom as stronger supporters of his music and career. In addition, he is connected to the giant that is Spinnin’ Records. 2018 has been an incredibly busy year for Williams. His much anticipated latest release “Rocket” comes on the Dharma Worldwide imprint and is available to stream/download now.
OneEDM caught up with the Dutch producer at Creamfields festival in the UK to chat about his music, touring with his sister and performing without shoes.
Your current track is “The Beat”, tell us a bit about it
I produced it earlier this year. I just wanted to have a track like this for my sets, not really for radio or anything. A lot of big DJ’s are playing it in their sets and Hardwell made an edit of it. I’m super happy about that.
Your collaboration with Mesto is all over the internet, have you any plans to release it soon?
I started playing it in my sets just to test it out and then people started recording it and putting it on social media. It’s gotten so much attention now that we really have to release it soon. Now we are trying to work on a release date for that track. It will probably be right before ADE. I have another release coming in September on KSHMR’s label.
Tell us about your vlog series ‘On Tour with Mike Williams’.
When we started to do more and more shows we really noticed that not a lot of people actually know about what happens behind the scenes in this industry. There is so much going on and some artists only show the exciting stuff, the cool shows and the big crowd on their social media. We wanted to give people a look inside the real world of touring and being a DJ; all the flights, the tiredness, everything. It’s really cool to share this experience with my sister because she has been there from the start, from my first show to right now. To have a family member with me is really nice.
What are your goals for the future?
This year I got to achieve one of my big goals and that was to play on the Ultra Mainstage in Miami. That was really a dream come true. For the future, I want to work on more new music. I feel I can make bigger tracks. My collaborations with Tiësto and R3hab have done really well but I feel like there is more in me (Check out Mike’s UMF set here).
Club vs. Festival?
The vibe is so different. What I like about clubs is that it is so intimate, you can really see each person and their reaction to the music and when you play new tracks it’s easier to see if people like it or not. Festivals are great. Seeing massive crowds of people jumping around to your track is a huge buzz.
Tell us something your fans wouldn’t know about you
I always want to take my shoes off when I’m performing, it makes me feel more comfortable. When I started DJing it was in my bedroom. I think my sets are better when I play in my socks. I feel like I’m more focused and in the zone.
Plans for the rest of 2018
We’ll be doing some more shows in Europe, of course, ADE and near the end of the year a few shows in Asia so it’s going to be busy. I’m already working on stuff for next year too.
The enthusiastic producer returns to ADE 2018 with another Mike Williams and Friends party. Jimmy Woo will play host to this year’s edition on Sunday, October 21. Mike will be joined by Zonderling, Dannic, Jay Hardway, Dastic, Firebeatz, Tom and Jame, and Brooks. Tickets are available here.
