Most recently, Nils Hoffmann released his newest album, A Radiant Sign. This album is a part of his three-album deal that he signed with Anjunadeep and it really inspires people to continue going strong no matter the difficulties they are facing. Here is One EDM’s exclusive interview with Nils Hoffmann as he talks about A Radiant Sign, how is it like working with Anjunadeep label, and upcoming performances worldwide.
Ken Ngo: Hello Nils, how are you doing? The season of autumn is here. What did you like about this past summer?
Nils Hoffmann: I got to play a lot of cool shows and visit a lot of new cities. It was the start of my relationship with Anjunadeep, which was incredible and I got to play some Anjuna events and meet a lot of cool people in that community. Overall summer was great. It was a lot of work, but rewarding.
You recently released your newest album, A Radiant Sign, and the album hit #1 on the “iTunes Dance/Electronic Albums” Chart. How did you feel when you found out that A Radiant Sign reached #1?
Originally, we saw that it was #2 right behind Drake and we were really happy with that. We said “Okay that’s pretty good, there’s no way we de-throne Drake.” Then about 20 minutes later it hit #1. I was shocked but excited!
In your own words, what is A Radiant Sign all about? In regards to musical composition of the album.
Thematically, it’s about pushing through the difficult times and growing as a result of challenging times.
What makes this album stands out from your previous works?
It’s certainly the body of work I’m most happy with so far. I worked really hard on getting the mixing and mastering just right. I was fortunate enough to work with mix engineer Stefan Thomas. We spent hours and hours in the studio just making every little detail exactly the way we wanted it to sound. This was also the first album where I got to explore more of the songwriting world and got to work with a bunch of super talented songwriters.
How do you feel about being signed to a top trance and progressive house label such as Anjunadeep?
I think it’s incredible. I always listened to Anjuna growing up and was also incredibly inspired by their entire community and the artists that they work with so getting to be a part of it was very cool.
Your album has picked up a lot of support on BBC Radio 1, Sirius XM Chill, and KCRW. Do you feel any level of excitement knowing that your music is being showcased on these prestigious stations?
Yes! It’s pretty humbling to be honest. I never had any expectations that this would be played on the radio but it’s really cool and I’m happy that everyone likes it.
Your album singles have gained over 2 million streams. For anyone who are not familiar with your music yet, which singles do you recommend the fans to listen first?
“9 Days”, “About You”, and “Afterglow” are all good. I really like how those came out but really anything on the album is a good reflection of my musical style and taste. You can really start anywhere and that would give you a glimpse of who I am.
Now that A Radiant Sign is on the books, do you have any more upcoming releases in the works?
I’ll be taking a little bit of a break but will be heading back to the studio soon. I’ve been working on a couple of remixes and there are a few more “bucket list” artists I would like to remix, but I’m already doing a few more writing sessions and working on some demos for my next project.
Do you have any upcoming tours that the fans can look forward to?
Yes, I will be playing shows in India and in the U.S., which will be announced soon.
Question 10: 2023 is approaching in a few months. What do you hope to see happening for you in the next year?
I just want to keep making music and growing as an artist. I want to see new places, and meet new people and fans. I also want to expand and improve my current live setup to play more hard ticket shows alongside club shows I play.
