BIG by David Guetta Review

As August arrives David Guetta‘s third season with his BIG party concept at Ushuaïa Ibiza’s poolside music venue is in full swing. The legendary French producer has really pulled out all the stops curating a lineup that brings joy to the hearts of the tens of thousands of EDM fans that descend upon the white isle  each year.

One EDM stopped by the famous open air venue to see how David Guetta’s 2018 edition of BIG is shaping up.

This particular week of Guetta’s BIG party saw Ushuaïa Ibiza play host to not one but two of dance music biggest artists as David was joined by The Chainsmokers. The venue was full to capacity with barely any room to move as thousands packed in to see two of dance music’s heavyweights perform live.

The Chainsmokers burst onto the Ushuaïa stage with ferocious energy shortly after 9.30pm. Their high octane  hour long set had the crowd enthralled. The American producers excited the large audience with their popular set which featured tracks from Camelphat (Cola), Calvin Harris (One Kiss) and Tove Lo (High).

It  wouldn’t be a Chainsmokers set without a selection of their own productions including “Everybody Hates Me”, “Something Just Like This” and “Closer” , the duos critically acclaimed collaboration with Halsey. Alex and Drew finished their set with the Ran-D version of The Cranberries hit “Zombie”. They also gave a word of thanks to their host and friend “It was amazing to be back at Ushuaïa this year. Thanks to David for having us for this season and we can’t wait to come back”.

With no time to catch their breath David Guetta took to the Ushuaïa stage for his headline performance. Many often question when they see Guetta’s name on the Ushuaïa roster each year (this year is his seventh season at the poolside venue) whether he can offer something fresh year after year? Well, he can. The skilled master of the DJ booth shows no sign of slowing down.

Guetta’s set drew from many broad influences. It was filled with popular tracks from Eminem (8 Mile), Martin Garrix (Tremor) and  Calvin Harris (One Kiss). This may have been a little disappointing to the hardcore Guetta fans considering his extensive back catalogue of original productions. This crowd sang and cheered their way through his entire set.

Midway through his set the stage lights went down, the music became deep, dark and just a little bit techno. The aerial artist began her short performance and drew the crowds’ attention upward.  The concept is not a new addition to David’s performance. However, you can’t help but be in awe of the skill and talent required for such a performance.

The final segment of David’s performance saw him play many of his own productions. These included “Bang Bang”,  “Your Love”, “Without You” and “Flames”. To finish, he played out his global hit from 2009 “When Love Takes Over”.

David Guetta’s weekly BIG show continues to push the boundaries of extravagant events. The visual production, pyrotechnics and stage design are always top notch. The consistent, high quality musical performances mean that you are guaranteed to enjoy the BIG party.  In the coming weeks you’ll be able to catch Afrojack and Robin Schulz perform alongside David. In addition, Oliver Heldens, Jonas Blue and Brooks will also perform. For tickets and further lineup information click here
