Taking a laid back boogie approach to his newest track, Calvin Harris enlists the aid of some of today’s biggest Hip-Hop and Pop super stars. Young Thug, Pharrell Williams, and Ariana Grande all aid the EDM tycoon on his feel good summer slice “Heatstroke”. The leisure like soul-funk jam that grows on you more and more with every tap of the repeat button.
A steady grooved-out bass line rides along the waves of a coasting keyboard melody. Pharrell lends an expertise hand in the do’s and don’t’s of going retro with this cool city tune. Serenading us with his classy hit singing voice Pharrell nails it once again. But it’s Young Thug who woos and coos the mic on this beach chair head knocker. Showing his shifting ability to snug ATL style into a old school pop concoction. Ms.Grande completes the batch with her soft dainty falsetto that soothes with the warmth of a lullaby. Confidently showing that a full house of talent can’t fail at dishin’ out an alllllll right hit.
Tweeting out song credits prior to the release seems to be Calvin’s new tackle on the industry (just as he did with “Slide” ft Migos and Frank Ocean). This shows us two things, 1. Calvin is proving his skills as a musician and 2. he’s shuttin’ people up! With other stellar collabs like The Chainsmokers ft Coldplay kicking off 2017, could this be Calvin’s way of snatching a nomination for best pop duo/ group performance? I think it’s safe to say it has the makings of being a big contender. And if I have anything to say about it, titling your song “Heatstroke” is a clear claim on summer supremacy.
