Esteemed South African house producer Themba has remixed Hosh and 1979‘s single ‘Midnight (The Hanging Tree)’, which features vocalist Jalja. Themba’s remix of the track is the latest addition to his “Herd Remix” series. This new Herd Remix sees Themba delivers a vibrant take on the colorful original from HOSH and 1979. This remix has plenty of percussive elements while retaining Jalja’s pitch-perfect vocals. To emphasize, the remix has influences from traditional South African music with rhythmic drumbeats accompanying energetic synths. The Herd Remix of ‘Midnight (The Hanging Tree)’ is perfect for any occasion, whether at a large-scale festival or during a private workout session.
The original track
Currently, ‘Midnight (The Hanging Tree)’ has gained 10.5 million streams on Spotify alone. First released exclusively on Beatport back in December via HOSH’s fryhide record label, it reached #1 in the Melodic House and Techno Tracks playlist and #2 in the main Beatport Chart. It also received the remix treatment from house legend Henrik Schwarz. Furthermore, the track has received strong support from BBC Radio 1. The legendary Pete Tong named the track as the first ‘Essential New Tune’ of the decade.
Themba is a prevalent star in the South African house scene. He has continued to build a global reputation since dropping his highly acclaimed single ‘Who Is Themba’ in 2018. With his music receiving support from A-listers such as Adam Beyer, Pete Tong, Hot Since 82, Damian Lazarus and Masters At Work, he has toured with fellow South African pioneer Black Coffee. Additionally, he released his third DJ mix album earlier this year titled Herd In Tulum.
