LiveStyle’s AMFAMFAMF Presents Announces New Booking Partnership with The Globe Theater in downtown Los Angeles

LiveStyle’s newest entertainment property, AMFAMFAMF Presents,  was created by tastemaker and music executive Gary Richards, along with Breakfast Club and Friendship. Breakfast Club was a sold-out event during Miami Music Week, while Friendship is a planned music cruise that will set sail in December. LiveStyle continues to build its eclectic portfolio with the announcement of a new booking partnership with one of Los Angeles’ most historic venues The Globe Theatre. This venue is located in the heart of downtown’s iconic theater district.

History of The Globe Theatre

Built in 1913, The Globe Theatre is filled with history. It originally opened under the name Morosco Theatre. At the time, it had a seating capacity of just 782 people.  Built for impresario Oliver Morosco and designed by the architectural firm of Morgan, Walls & Morgan, it was used for full-scale live dramatic theater. During the Great Depression, the theater converted into a movie theater. Later, it served as a Spanish-language movie theater. The building was turned into a swap meet in 1987.  Since opening, The Globe Theatre welcomed celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Charlie Chaplin. In June 2014, construction to restore it to use as an entertainment venue began. On June 24, 2014, the restored marquee was re-lit. As a result, the theater regained its impressive luster of past times with its historic entrance on Broadway.

The Globe Theatre today

Today, The Globe is a multipurpose space for music, theatrical events, and films and has a current capacity of 2,000 attendees. The legendary Globe Theatre has undergone a massive five-year restoration to the 27,000 square foot space. In the main hall, there is a top of the line Void Acoustics sound system with a state of the art lighting system and 114 LED ultra-high resolution LED video panels. Its ideal size allows exceptional shows while the latest audio technologies, lighting, and special effects enhance the Baroque architecture.

In addition, a 450 capacity venue also inhabits the Globe Theater basement. To emphasize, this venue has top of the line lighting and Void Acoustics sound system. Consequentially, it brings the heart of the dance music to downtown Los Angeles. Aptly named The Underground, the basement will solely focus on the music and being present at the moment. To accomplish this, they request that fans forego cell phone use. They also ask that nobody takes photos or videos of the events.

New bookings

The booking style will reflect AMFAMFAMF’s dedication to finding new and exciting music while still supporting some of the best names in dance, hip-hop, indie rock and more.

Already, AMFAMFAMF has planned upcoming shows at The Globe Theatre. Here is a list of some of the upcoming concerts:

  • May 4 – Matthew Dear (DJ set) – Basement
  • May 11 – Maya Jane Coles – Main Room
  • June 1 – Gaiser (Live) – Basement
  • July 21 – Dennis Ferrer – Basement
  • July 28 – Mathew Jonson – Basement

The Globe Theatre is located at 740 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90014. All shows are 21 +. Doors for each event open at 10:00 p.m. and close at 2:00 a.m.

Statements

The Globe owner Erik Choi made the following statement about the deal.

In 1991, I dedicated my clubs in Paris, France to celebrate the electronic dance music movement, featuring some of today’s biggest DJsWhen I came to Los Angeles in search of a venue that had infinite possibilities for clubs, concerts and special events, the Globe Theatre gave me the goose bumps.  Gary Richards and AMFAMFAMF share the same philosophy and vision of the Globe’s future, while honoring and respecting its past.

Gary Richards, AMFAMFAMF founder and President of the North American branch of LiveStyle also made a statement about the deal:

I’ve had a long history producing events in Los Angeles, but never been part of a weekly.  The Globe is a unique venue in downtown and I could not be happier with this partnership.
