Warner Music Group signs licensing deal with Anghami

Warner Music Group has announced a new licensing deal with Anghami, the most extensive streaming service in the Middle East and North Africa.  Anghami users will now have access to Warner Music Group’s catalog of music and new releases. This deal expands Warner Music Group’s reach into new territory, as Anghami is quite popular in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia.

Warner Music Group is one of the largest entertainment companies in the United States.  Founded by Time Warner, the company was publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange until May 2011. When it announced its privatization and sale to Access Industries. The company has over 3500 employees and has operations in over 50 countries around the world.

Anghami

Launched in 2012, Anghami is one of the first legal music streaming platforms in the Middle East. It specializes in Arabic and International music. Anghami boasts 50 million users and operates similarly to Spotify. It offers users a subscription plan, which allows them to listen to music and watch videos on demand.  It also makes money through an ad-sponsored streaming service.

Ole Obermann, chief digital officer of Warner Music Group, released the following statement regarding the deal:

In order to create global opportunities for artists, it’s imperative that we have a strong network of local partnerships around the world. We’re seeing a huge demand for music streaming in the Middle East and North Africa, and Anghami has a beautiful product that super-serves its users there with both local and international music and videos. I’m looking forward to working with Eddy and his team to break artists across the region.

Anghami co-founder Eddy Maroun also made a statement regarding the agreement.
